Stuff I never made

We’ve made a bunch or really cool stuff over the years to sell in our online store and at conventions. Some stuff sold great, some stuff we took a bath on. You rarely can predict what’s going to connect to people, especially as they’re being totally overstimulated with product at a comic or gaming convention.

Here are a couple things I designed but never pulled the trigger on making:

Val Acrylic Standee:

Acrylic standees are super popular in Japan and Cory had a lot of success with them working with UDON entertainment. Of course, with UDON you get to make standees out of CAPCOM and other licensed IP powerhouses.

This standee was going to have two layers to it. the front piece was Val out of the gelatenous cube and the back piece would have the part of her that was submurged. Kind of a cool idea, but I worried nobody would want to buy it so we never did it.

Camp Owlcare tee:

I drew a baby owlbear one time during some downtime at a con and really liked it. I thought it would be fun to put on a tee shirt. So when I got home I designed a whole camp theme around it.

I still think the little guy is cute, but Camp Owlcare is kind of a dumb name. It felt like it was a camp for kindergarten kids or something. And then I worried about comparisons to the Lookouts over at Penny-Arcade. In the end, nobody would have bought this shirt, so the design ended up on the scrap pile.

I do plan to use it in book 2 of my middle-grade series which takes place at a LARP camp. I think the OWLCARE sign will show up over the first aid shack in that story.
